A 63-year-old Ponce Inlet man driving by a golf course was pummeled by a golfer after the motorist complained about a golf ball hitting his truck, police said.
Police are looking for help from the public to identify the golfer, said Lt. Max Binz.
Meanwhile, motorist Richard Fillingame was at Halifax Health Medical Center in the intensive care unit waiting for facial surgery, he said Monday. He knows he was hit, but could not remember the details of the incident.
"I don't know if I have any broken bones, I guess the doctor will tell me that this afternoon," Fillingame said from his hospital room in a telephone interview.
Binz said Fillingame's injuries were serious, however, and the police report indicates that officers were looking for a golf club on the fairway. An employee at Harbour Village Golf and Yacht Club said the course is not open to the public, only to residents and their guests.
"The victim was seriously injured, and we had a few witnesses, but we don't know who the golfer is," Binz said Monday morning. "He may have been with a woman."
The incident occurred Saturday between 4:45 and 5 p.m. at the Harbour Village Links Golf Course, a report shows. Fillingame was driving along the 4500 block of South Atlantic Avenue when a golf ball hit his truck, Binz said.
